Fred M. (Delice) Walker, Jr
Obituary Date: Wednesday, November 12, 2014
Mrs. Fred M. (Delice) Walker, Jr. (93), of Alpharetta, GA, peacefully passed from this world on 11-12-14, after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. Born Martha Delice Robinson in Fort Worth, TX, Delice grew up in Jacksonville, FL, and graduated from Landon High School with honors in 1939. Her husband, Fred, the love of her life and a classmate at Landon, were married that same year. Delice worked at Duke University while Fred attended college there both before and after WWII. Fred's career in hospital administration took Delice and family to Wilmington, NC, Gainesville, GA, Rome, GA, Coral Gables, FL, Jasper, GA, and then to retirement in Alpharetta, GA. Delice spent her life as a dedicated wife, homemaker, and mother to her three sons. Her other activities included teaching Sunday School, volunteer work with the ladies hospital auxiliaries in towns where she resided, and participation in garden clubs. Her hobbies included sewing for her nieces and grandchildren, gardening, cooking, and travel. Delice was intensely interested in learning, with an emphasis on history and religion and spent many hours in that pursuit, gaining in knowledge and wisdom. Her travels took her to Europe on several occasions. She especially loved England and Scotland and their histories. She was a true Anglophile. Stray animals often found their way to her home and were welcomed as family members and treated with much kindness and love, along with her other pets. Delice took special delight in watching her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren grow and prosper. She had a very soft heart and cared much more for others than for herself, a true servant. The 'fruits of the spirit' were very evident in her life and demeanor.
Delice was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Robinson of Jacksonville, FL, four brothers, one sister, husband, Fred Jr. and her son Fred III (Freddie). She is survived by her sons Richard (Dickie) and his wife Karen, and Robert (Bobby), of Alpharetta, GA. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Brenda Malcom Walker of Bostwick, GA, grandchildren Hope Sandoval (Tom) of Loganville, GA, Keith Walker (Michelle) of Watkinsville, GA, Fred Walker, IV (Jacqueline) of Palm Springs, CA, Amy Malcom (Sibert) of Bostwick, Ga, twelve great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, brother-in-law Garth Walker of Orlando, FL, sister-in-law Mary Walker Price of Edina, MN, cousin Rhoda Ingram of Griffin, GA, and many special nieces, nephews, and friends.
The family is deeply grateful to the tender, loving care provided by Peachtree Christian Hospice, Duluth, Georgia.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that any gifts honoring Delice be made to the charity of your choosing.
