Mr. Jack Darwin Allison, Sr. age 87, passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 after an extended illness.
Mr. Allison was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina on August 19, 1927, to John James and Mazie Beatrice Humphries Allison. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a precious granddaughter, Michele Gilbert.
Mr. Allison was a veteran of the United States Army and was stationed in Austria and Germany in 1946. After his tour of duty, he graduated from Clemson College in 1952.
In 1955, Mr. Allison moved his family to Gainesville, GA where he was involved in the poultry industry until his retirement. Over many years he was involved in several civic organizations.
He is survived and will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Mary. They were happily married for sixty-eight years. Survivors also include daughters and their husbands, Andrea and Johnny Gilbert, Pam and Ronnie Weeks, Sheila and Bradley Dunckel, along with his son and his wife Darwin and Judy Allison. He also leaves nine wonderful grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. His friends at Silver Sneakers were also very special to him.
The family would like to thank the caregivers of Southern Companions for their loving and unselfish care during his illness. They are also thankful for the care given by the nurses and employees of Halcyon Hospice. A special thank you goes to Earl Pirkle, pastor of Central Baptist Church for his kindness and time.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 11, 2014 at Little & Davenport Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
