Vernon Russell "Mike" McCracken, Jr

Vernon Russell "Mike" McCracken, Jr., age 60, of Buford, GA passed away on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mac and Virginia McCracken. He is survived by his wife of twenty-six years, Cathy Hughes McCracken, Buford, GA; children, Russell and Tabatha McCracken, Buford, GA, and Allison McCracken and Butch Best, Winder, GA; grandchildren, Cameron Best and Keelin McCracken; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Jim Scrogham, Lawrenceville, GA, Cindy and Wayne Tingle, Loganville, GA, and Kathie and Andy Garmon, Lilburn, GA; father-in-law and mother-in-law, John and Kathryn Powell Hughes, Buford, GA, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John, Jr. and Donna Hughes, Buford, GA; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. Mr. McCracken was born January 27, 1954 in Twin Falls, ID. He was a 1972 graduate of Berkmar High School in Lilburn, GA, where he was an accomplished multi-sport athlete. He worked in many facets of the construction industry, his most recent employment being with Baldwin County Parks and Recreation. He was a member of New Prospect United Methodist Church. He was an avid Atlanta Falcons and Georgia Bulldogs football fan. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at 3:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Fish officiating and Tony Powell delivering the eulogy. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service and the family requests casual dress attire for those attending the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Gwinnett County Fire Benevolent Fund, 408 Hurricane Shoals Road, NE, Lawrenceville, GA 30046 in memory of Mike McCracken.
