Reuben David Colquitt

Obituary Date: Saturday, October 18, 2014
Memorial services for Mr. Reuben David Colquitt, age 80, of Gainesville, GA will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 22, 2014, at Gainesville First United Methodist Church, Dr. Terry Walton will officiate. Mr. Colquitt passed away October 18, from severe head trauma due to a fall.

Reuben was born in Oglethorpe County, Crawford, GA in 1934. He was the youngest child of the late David Sidney and Nettie Sue Colquitt. Mr.Colquitt served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-1954. He then attended the University of Georgia while working at General Time as a time study engineer for 5 years. He worked for 16 years at Aerovox, Inc. in the beginning as an engineer and left as President of Myrtle Beach, SC and Olean, NY plant operations in 1976. He returned back to Georgia as an entrepreneur for 22 years in Manufacturing and Retail sales in Gainesville, GA.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Mr. Levis Colquitt, three sisters, Mrs. L. E. Johnson, Mrs. Cecil Huff, and Mrs. Delree Nation.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years Peggie Wheless Colquitt, daughter and son-in-law Tamara and Brian Willman, Mobile, Alabama. Two sons, Reuben David Colquitt Jr., and wife Beth Lencke Colquitt of Atlanta, GA. Stephen Gregory Colquitt and Fiancé Margaret Tonkin of Columbia, SC., Seven Grandchildren; Brooks, Mason, and Sarah Beth Colquitt, Atlanta, GA. Bailey and Sydney Colquitt, Columbia, SC; and Oliver and Miles Willman of Mobile, Alabama.

He was a member of First United Methodist Church, a Mason, and Shriner. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to: Gainesville First United Methodist Church, 2780 Thompson Bridge Road or www.shrinershospitalsforchildren.org
