Gary 'Durock' Hicks

Gary 'Durock' Hicks, 56, of Dawsonville passed away Sunday October 12, 2014 at his residence following a sudden illness.

Born September 23, 1958, Mr. Hicks lived his entire life in Dawson and Lumpkin Counties. He owned and operated Georgia Waste and enjoyed panning for gold and camping. A highlight of his life was spending time with his nieces and nephews. Gary was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his mother, Vina C. Hicks; sisters, Estell Jett, Kathy Robbins, Robin Hicks; brothers, Rual Ingram, Roy Ingram and Danny Hicks.

Surviving are his father, Robert Hicks, Dahlonega; sisters and brothers in law, Bonnie Gentry, Dawsonville, Barbara and Charles Brown, Dahlonega, Gladys Bruce, Dawsonville, Caroline Fauscett, Dawsonville, Patty and Bill McDaniel, Dawsonville, Betty Sue Hicks, Elberton; brothers and sisters in law, Kenneth and Shirley Hicks, Dahlonega, Ricky and Diane Hicks, Dahlonega, Jimmy Hicks, Dawsonville; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Thursday October 16, 2014 at 2 o'clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. James Lemley and Rev. Lee Ayers will officiate. Interment will follow in Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 until 8 at the funeral home.
