Mr. Donald H. "Don" Shomake, age 77, of Buford, GA passed away on Monday, October 6, 2014. If you had met Don, you liked him and if you knew him for any time at all, you loved him. Generous to a fault, his bottomless heart was epitomized by his saying "if I have a biscuit, you got half." Seizing life by the horns, he switched careers in mid life and earned 2 US patents in a long career with Exxon Chemical Co. A 1955 graduate of Buford High School (and all county football player), graduate of North Georgia College with a bachelor of arts degree, veteran of the United States Army, member of First Baptist Church of Buford, member of the Buford Planning and Zoning Board and an avid golfer, Don tackled life head on and was successful at everything he wanted to accomplish. Don was preceded in death by his wife, Joanne Hannah Shomake; son, Craig Alton Shomake; parents, Clyde and Annie Jo Hamilton Shomake; brother and sister-in-law, Jack and Annette Vickery Shomake; and brother-in-law, Donald Hannah. He is survived by his children, Lynne and Keith Speed, Buford, GA, and Ted and Lisa Shomake, Lawrenceville, GA; grandchildren, Kacie Speed, Ryan Speed, and Anna Speed, all of Buford, GA, Hannah Shomake and Frances Shomake, both of Lawrenceville, GA, brother, John Michael Shomake, Duluth, GA; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Patsy Hannah, Buford, GA, Kathy and Johnny Frady, Sugar Hill, GA, and Carolyn Hannah, Buford, GA; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Buddy and Joyce Hannah, Flowery Branch, GA, and Tony and Lynn Hannah, Braselton, GA; niece, Becky Shomake, Marietta, GA, and other nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2014 at 2:00 p.m., in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Wayne Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens, 5979 New Bethany Road, Buford, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, October 8, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eagle Ranch, P. O.
