Dennis Abercrombie, age 59, of Dahlonega, Georgia, passed away Monday, September 29, 2014.
He was born and raised in Lumpkin County to the late Charles Griffin "C.G." Abercrombie and Irma Woodward and James Jackson, spent a number of years traveling the world with the military, and had been living back in Lumpkin County for the past 10 years. He served his country as a Major in the United States Army and gained his Educational Specialist Degree at North GA College. Mr. Abercrombie taught Math in Lumpkin, Forsyth, Fannin, White, and Hall counties, and at the Mountain Education Center in Dahlonega, as well as at North GA College. He mentored many children over the years and was a member of Dahlonega Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder.
Dennis is survived by his wife of 21 years, Gay Loggins Abercrombie, Dahlonega, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Jason Michael and Katie Abercrombie, Hoschton, GA; daughter, Emma Marie Welch, Dahlonega, GA; sons, Jason Alexander Abercrombie, St. John's Creek, GA, Dennis James "D.J." Jackson, Dahlonega, GA; daughter, Heather Elizabeth Diane Abercrombie, Dahlonega, GA; grandchildren, Solomon, Caiden, Myles, Connor, and William; brother, Randy Jackson; sister and brother-in-law, Anita and Gary Tolbert, all of Dahlonega, GA; and mother-in-law, Hazel Loggins, Demorest, GA. Many friends and a number of other relatives also survive.
A Celebration of Life service for Dennis is scheduled for 2:30 PM Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Dahlonega Presbyterian Church.
Rev. Mari Turner and Rev. Frank Colladay will officiate.
Interment will follow in the Mt. Hope Cemetery in Dahlonega.
The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega from 4 PM until 7 PM on Thursday, October 2, 2014, and from 10 AM until 2 PM on Saturday, October 4, 2014.
