Mr. Frank James Watson, age 91 of Oakwood, passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an extended illness.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Scott Wilson will officiate. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 1, 2014 from 6 - 9 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Watson was born October 8, 1922 in Homer, Georgia to the late Frank James Watson, Sr. and Audrey Tumlin Watson. He was a 1941 graduate of Lyman Hall High School and served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II, where he received a Purple Heart. Frank flew in over 20 combat missions over enemy territory of Germany and was a POW in Germany for 9 months. Frank was retired from Hall County Board of Education where he worked in the Migrant Program and was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, VFW, DAV and American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Max Watson.
Mr. Watson is survived by his wife of 66 years, Betty Braselton Watson of Oakwood, his daughter, Nancy Watson Cooper of Gainesville, his daughter & son-in-law, Susan & Chris White of Gainesville, grandchildren, Brandon Cooper of Houston, Texas, Scott White of Gainesville and Tiffany White of Gainesville, brother & sister-in-law, Rex & Gwen Watson of Gainesville, sister-in-law, Amy Watson of Gainesville and a number of nieces and nephews.
