J. Perry Hendrix

J. Perry Hendrix, age 85 of Demorest, Georgia passed away on Monday, September 22, 2014.
Mr. Hendrix was born on December 25, 1928 in Barrow County, Georgia to the late Henry Edward and Annie Bell Clack Hendrix. He was also preceded in death by sister, Sarah Hendrix; brothers, J. Roy Hendrix and Bill Hendrix. Mr. Hendrix was a 1946 graduate of Winder High School and received his .bachelor of arts degree from Piedmont College. He was a member of Cornelia First Presbyterian Church. Mr. Hendrix was a charter and life member of the Habersham Rotary Club. He was also a charter member of the Joseph Habersham Chapter Sons of the American Revolution. Mr. Hendrix was the former mayor of Demorest, Georgia, serving four years and served as a city councilman for twenty eight years. He served on the Habersham County Water Authority for a number of years. He was a dedicated servant for the City of Demorest. Mr. Hendrix was retired from Ethicon, a division of Johnson and Johnson, where he was employed from May 1, 1947 to May 1, 1986 as plant superintendent. His favorite authors were William Shakespeare, Robert Burns and Alfred Tennyson. His favorite poem was "Crossing the Bar". He loved his God, his country, his church, his family and his fellowman. He enjoyed meeting people, making people laugh and laughing with people. Mr. Hendrix was a people person.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, John P. and V. Mei Hendrix, Statesboro, GA; sisters-in-law, Betty Daniel Hendrix, Mt. Airy, GA, Areeta Ballew Hendrix, TN; grandson, Joshua F. Hendrix, Greenville, SC.
Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., on Friday, September 26, 2014, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Rev. Jason Edwards and Rev. Blaine Walker officiating. Interment will follow in Demorest City Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 26, 2014, 2014 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia.
