William Candler Dozier, Sr.

William Candler Dozier, Sr. 94, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2014.

Candler was born on July 30, 1920 in Gainesville, GA. He was the son of the late E.B. Dozier and Elizabeth McEver Dozier. Candler's wife Mary Thompson Dozier and his brother Emory Balton Dozier preceded him in death.

Candler attended Gainesville High School and served as a Sargent in the U.S. Army during World War II as a radio operator. Candler enjoyed a career selling men's clothing to the Gainesville community, working many years at Frierson McEver, Wheelers Men's Wear and Kunzers. He took great pride in helping his customers and in the relationships he built with fellow employees. Candler was a member of First Baptist Church and an original member of the Anglers Sunday School class.

Candler is survived by his three children and their families: Candler, Jr. and Pat Dozier of Auburn, Ga., Jim and Theresa Dozier of Alpharetta, Ga., and Judy and Charlie Westbrook of Gainesville, GA.; grandchildren, Christopher and Marina Dozier of Suwanee, GA. Michael and Katherine Westbrook of Gainesville, GA., and Jennifer Westbrook of Gainesville, GA.; great grandchildren, Rhianna Dozier, Kate, Ben and Blake Westbrook; sisters in law, Louise Evans, Ollie Conley, and Nellie (Carl) Brenner and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank the staff of Morningside Assisted Living for the many years of care given to Candler. A special thanks to sister in law and special friend Louise Evans.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, September 22, 2014 at Alta Vista Cemetery. Rev. Bruce Fields will officiate. The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home from Noon until 1:30 p.m. prior to the graveside service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to one's favorite charity in Mr. Dozier's memory.
