Richard Warren Bledsoe

Obituary Date: Sunday, September 7, 2014
Richard Warren Bledsoe, 81, of Cumming, died September 7, 2014 surrounded by family. He is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Joan O'Brien Bledsoe, daughter Paula B. Tudor, son-in-law R. Keith Tudor, son Evan O. Bledsoe, daughter-in-law Jana H. Bledsoe, granddaughter Kate Tudor, and niece Carrie Baker. A native Atlantan, he was preceded in death by parents Othel and Evelyn Bledsoe, sister Patricia Baker, and brother Jack Bledsoe. After attending Mercer University in Macon and Georgia State University majoring in both English Literature and Transportation Logistics, he served in the Intelligence Division of the US Coast Guard, stationed in Manhattan. A specialist in logistical engineering, he started his career with the Central of Georgia Railroad and went on to serve in that capacity with two other corporations. He was a member of the Society of Logistical Engineers, Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, many historical and genealogical societies, and was a sixty year member of the Appalachian Trail Club. Upon retiring, he spent more time pursuing his lifelong love of landscape architecture, building and transforming gardens with his crosstie, stone, and brick walls and walkways. He loved gardening, dogs, being a grandfather, and every inch of the state of Georgia which he explored over a lifetime of much enjoyed road trips. He was an avid reader, loved watching the marshes at Fripp Island from his back porch, and loved sunsets on Lake Burton. There will be a private service. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children Donate - Shriners Hospitals for Children or to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital. https://shop.stjude.org/GiftCatalog/donation.do?cID=14262&pID=24671.
