Lorene Parker Hooper

Mrs. Lorene Parker Hooper, age 93, was born January 8, 1921 in Hall County, Georgia. Mrs. Hooper passed away at her residence on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, from an extended illness. She had lived the majority of her life in the New Bridge Community of Gainesville/Hall County Georgia. Mrs. Hooper was a devoted lifelong member of New Bridge Baptist Church, Gainesville, Georgia, which was founded by her great grandmother. Mrs. Hooper, at the time of her death, was one the oldest members of the church. Mrs. Hooper was married to the late Roy F. Hooper Sr. for 52 years until his death in 2001. Mrs. Hooper was retired from the Leece-Neville Corporation where she was employed for 28 faithful years. Mr. and Mrs. Hooper were blessed to enjoy a long and happy retirement spending time together with family, tending their vegetable garden and traveling to many destinations across the United States and Canada. Mrs. Hooper was preceded in death by her husband Roy F. Hooper, Sr., parents Claude W. and Mary "Mamie" Parker, Brother Clarence "Bud" Parker, and Sister Ruth Morrow.

Mrs. Hooper is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Chief (Ret.) Frank and Teresa Hooper of Gainesville, grandson and wife, Justin and Camille Hooper of Bogart, Georgia, grandson, Joshua Cody Hooper of Gainesville, great grandchildren, Georgia, Kacey and Parker Hooper, all of Bogart, Georgia, sister, Clarace Parker Young of Gainesville, live in niece and great nephew, Regina and Brandon Morrow of Gainesville, sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Parker of Gainesville, sister-in-laws, Dorothy Owens and Rachel Hooper of Alto, Georgia and brother and sister-in-law, Ronald and Betty Hooper of Cornelia, Georgia. Mrs. Hooper is also survived by a host of beloved nephews, nieces and extended family.

Retired Gainesville Police Chief Frank Hooper said of his mother, "My mother was a very caring and loving person, my father taught me how to be a police officer but my mother taught me how to treat people." "If she met you once you became her friend, if you were sick she would come and care for you, and if you lost a loved one she was one of the first to visit and offer comfort." "Mother will be greatly missed."

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, September 13, 2014 at 1:00 pm at New Bridge Baptist Church with interment to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Reverend Milton Harris, Reverend Lloyd Martin and Reverend Darryl Womack will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 12, 2014 from 2 - 4 pm and 6 - 8 pm at the funeral home.
