Eula Wood Watson

Mrs. Eula Wood Watson, age 102 of Clarkesville passed away Wednesday September 10, 2014 at her home.

A daughter of the late Thomas Newton Wood and Nancy Emma Neal Wood, she was born September 22, 1911 in Blairsville, Georgia. She moved to Athens, Georgia in 1918 and later to Barberton, Ohio in 1922. After graduation from high school in Ohio, she and her family returned to Athens, Georgia in 1929. On December 24, 1929 she and Oliver F. Watson were married in Anderson, South Carolina.

Eula and her family moved to Toccoa, Georgia in July, 1946 where she lived until 1963, moving to Atlanta in 1963 and to Marietta in 1965. She was employed at Rich's Department Store until her retirement in 1976, returning to Toccoa in 1986 and later moved to Clarkesville in 1997.

Eula, known as Mema to many of her friends and family loved traveling. She visited many countries and all of the states except Oklahoma. But most of all, she enjoyed large gatherings of family on her birthday and Christmas. Many came from several states to visit during these special times.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven sisters, three brothers, husband, Oliver F. Watson in 1958, grandson, Jeff Sasser in 1988 and by her oldest son, Harold L. Watson in 2013.

Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, Gerald and Mary Anne Watson of Martinez, Georgia, Gene and Gwen Watson of Lakemont, Georgia and Rodney and Carolyn Watson of Toccoa, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Ray Sasser of Clarkesville, Georgia; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, September 13, 2 O'clock PM in the Hillcrest Chapel of the Acree-Davis Funeral Home with the Reverend Jack Wilson officiating.

Grandsons will serve as pallbearers, Kevin Watson, Gerald Watson, Jr., Franklin "Butch" Watson, Jay Watson, Brian Sasser and Michael Sasser. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers, Keith Watson, Ken Watson, Robert Watson, Billy Watson, Phil Watson and Mark Watson.

The family will be at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Sasser in Clarkesville and will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home on Saturday from 12:30 PM until the service time. Flowers are optional. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 2565 Thompson Bridge Road, Gainesville, Georgia 30501 in memory of Mrs. Eula Watson.

Interment will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Eula Wood Watson. Online condolences can be made by visiting the website at www.acree-davisfh.com.
