Wayne Orion McCord, 64, of Dawsonville passed away Monday September 1, 2014 at his residence following a sudden illness.
Born September 29, 1949 in Covington, Georgia to the late Emmett and Kathleen McCord, he had lived in Dawson County for 41 years having moved from Forsyth County. Mr. McCord retired as a commercial truck driver with 20 years of service. An avid fly fisherman, he made many rods and tied many flies. He donated his time and skills to the Wounded Warrior Project, the Healing Waters Project and the Shepherd Center. Wayne was a member of Juno Baptist Church, was a U. S. Army veteran of the Viet Nam era, and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Charles McCord.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Becky McCord, Dawsonville; son and daughter in law, David and Franchesca McCord, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Madeline Eckert, Fabiana Jones, Brogen McCord, Bryer McCord; sisters and brothers in law, Kay and Clain Gravitt, Cumming, Ginny and Kurt Ledbetter, Cumming, Libby and Rick Rodgers, Bradenton, FL; brothers and sisters in law, Jerry and Elsie McCord, Brooksville, FL, Marion and Bessie McCord, Cumming, Emmett and Sherry McCord, Gainesville, Harold and Karen McCord, Dawsonville; and a number of other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday September 4, 2014 at 11 o'clock at Juno Baptist Church. Rev. Leonard W. Ridings, Rev. Dennis Bottoms, Rev. Tim Biddy and Rev. Garry English will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 2 until 9 at the funeral home.
