Barbara Barnett Benson

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mrs. Barbara Barnett Benson who entered into rest August 19, 2014.

Mrs. Benson was 71 years old at the time of her passing. Mrs. Benson died due to complications with her battle with cancer.

Barbara is survived by one daughter Kelli Benson Sosebee and husband Ted Sosebee as well as four wonderful grandchildren, Kaleb Sosebee, Ashton Sosebee, Kendall Sosebee and Rylee Sosebee all of Jefferson. Barbara is also survived by one sibling Sarah B. Gee of Jefferson. Mrs. Benson was blessed with three caregivers who were at her side to comfort her, Ms. Kay Ray and Ms. Stephanie Hagan, and Ms. Melinda Cain.

Barbara is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Benny Bradford Benson Jr. and her parents Henry Polk Barnett and Ida Sudderth Barnett.

Mrs. Benson was a lifelong member of Jefferson Presbyterian Church of Jefferson, Georgia. During her time she served as Church Elder, Sunday school teacher, Bible school leader and whatever the church asked her to do. She retired with the State of Georgia with over 40 years of combined service between the Department of family and Children services and the Department of corrections.

Mrs. Benson's passions in life was God, her precious family, doing charity work, close friends, the color red and last but not least Elvis.

The funeral services will be held on Thursday August 21, 2014 at 4PM in the chapel of Evans Funeral Home with the Reverend Paul Evans officiating. Family will receive friends from 2 PM to 4 PM prior to the funeral service. The burial will follow in the Evans Memory Gardens. She will be laid to rest beside her loving husband for eternity. Honored as pallbearers for the service will be Harrison McDonald, Tim Love, Alex Bryan, Mitch Shropshire, Wayne Norris and Frank Eberhart. Honorary pallbearer will be Joe Peppers.

Abiding by Mrs. Benson's request in lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Jefferson Presbyterian Church or charity of choice.
