Loy Parks

Mr. Loy Parks, age 76, of Gainesville, GA died Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, GA following a sudden illness.

Loy was born in Dahlonega, GA February 20, 1938. He had lived in Gainesville since 1977. He worked at the Burlington Pine Tree Plant in Dahlonega for many years before retiring from Avery Label. For the last several years he enjoyed being a tour guide at Consolidated Gold Mine in Dahlonega. He was a Mason, U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, and was also a published poet. He was a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Lumpkin County.

Loy was the son of the late Howard Parks and Bonnelle Parks Weaver and was also preceded in death by his wife, Dr. Mary Olive Parks; son, Lester Parks; and an infant brother and sister.

Loy is survived by his daughter, Lolita Parks, Gainesville, GA; son, Matthew Parks, Dahlonega, GA; sisters, Lois Lovell, Frances Etris, Paulette Parks, Lynda Baltensperger, Angie Seabolt, and Pam Sheffield, all of Dahlonega, GA, and Nell Cato, Flowery Branch, GA; granddaughter and spouse, Tiffany and Dusty Turpin; great-grandchildren, Brynn and Bryson Turpin. A number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Loy are scheduled for 11 AM Saturday, August 16, 2014 at the Banister Funeral Home Chapel in Dahlonega.

Rev. Lyman Caldwell and Rev. Blake McCoy will officiate.

Interment will follow in the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Cemetery in Lumpkin County.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega, GA Friday, August 15, 2014 from 6 PM until 8 PM.
