Vernard Leon Simmons

Vernard Leon Simmons, 44, of Gainesville passed away on Sunday, July 27, 2014 at his residence following an extended illness.


Memorial services are scheduled for Thursday, July 31, 2014 at 8:00 pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home. Reverend Lamar Kesner and Reverend Kenny Jarred will officiate. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home.


Mr. Simmons was born on July 24, 1970 in Gainesville to Shelby Jean Chambers Simmons and the late Melvin Leon Simmons. He worked at Wal-Mart and attended Blackshear Place Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his foster father, Douglas Black.


Mr. Simmons is survived by mother, Shelby Simmons of Gainesville; sister, Sheryl Bruce and Erica Hancock both of Talmo; number of nieces and nephews; foster mother, Gladys Black of Gainesville
