John Richard Pittman

Obituary Date: Friday, July 25, 2014
John R. Pittman was born May 22, 1947, in Gainesville, Georgia to the late Ralph and Inez Pittman. Johnny went to his heavenly home on July 25, 2014, with his family by his side after a long and courageous battle with lung cancer.

He married Ann Cole Pittman, the love of his life, in January 1970, and could not have been more proud of his children, Amy Pittman (Gene) Whitmire and Allison Pittman (Blake) Hunter. He is also survived by his sister, Sue Puckett, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Dale and Wayne Dobbs, Linda Cole, Jerry and Jenny Ingram and a nephew, Allan Pittman, as well as many other nieces and nephews.

He was born and grew up in the East Hall community of White Sulphur, where he attended White Sulphur Elementary School and East Hall High School. He was a member of The First Baptist Church of Gainesville, where he served as an usher; Johnny was always willing to help others.

Johnny founded Pittman Grading in 1987 and continued to operate the business until his death. He took pride in his work and the service he provided to others. Honesty and Integrity would best describe his character. He never met a stranger, was friendly to everyone, and loved by all. Prior to starting his business, he was employed with the City of Gainesville Water Department. He was a member of The Old Friends Car Club and participated in numerous car shows to raise funds for worthy causes. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

The family would like to say a special Thank You to Dr. Kallab and his staff for five years of excellent care. The caregivers of Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center deserve praise and thanks for the services they have provided for the last couple of weeks. Sincere appreciation to each of you.

Floral contributions will be accepted or contributions to: The Ministry of Caring @ First Baptist Church of Gainesville, Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, or Good News at Noon.

Memorial Park Funeral Home will be in charge of the services. Visitation will be Saturday, July 26, 2014, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM and Sunday, July 27, 2014, from 11:00 AM until the funeral at 2:00 PM. Dr. Bill Coates will officiate. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery.
