Lucia Underhill

Lucia Underhill passed away on July 17, 2014, at the age of 68. She was surrounded until the very end by her children and loved ones in her home in Cumming, GA. Lucia battled ALS in a courageous way and will be remembered by her children, grandchildren, and an endless community of friends. She will always be remembered for her selflessness, dignity, and grace while faced with a most undignified disease.
Lucia was born in Winnetka, Illinois in January 1946 to Ethel and Alexander Fletcher. She was the fourth of eight children. She attended Vermont College where she met her husband George Underhill, whom she married in 1966. Lucia graduated with a Nursing degree which she used to to serve others in hospitals, Hospice units and elementary schools to name a few, throughout her career.
Lucia and her husband raised 4 children in Elmira, New York, and later moved to East Amherst, New York in 1987. She most enjoyed watching her 5 grandchildren grow. Lucia will always be remembered for her love of children, her magnetic rendition of "We Are Family," and her Christmas Cookies that could put others' to shame. She is survived by her siblings Gertrude O'Donnel, Alexander "Sandy" Fletcher, Ethel "Francie" Evans, Alan "Buster" Fletcher, Arthur Fletcher, and Anthony Fletcher, as well as her children Alexandra Underhill, Josephine D'Arcangelo, Alpheus Underhill and Victoria Abbott.
Lucia's family will be holding a small private remembrance on Tuesday, July 22nd. Donations can be made in Lucia's name to the Rocky Mountain ALS chapter.
