Mary Shirley Stephens

Mary Shirley Stephens, age 88, of Cornelia, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2014, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Born in Habersham County on March 22, 1926, she was a daughter of the late John Shirley and Ethaline Gailey Shirley. Mrs. Stephens was an active member of Camp Creek Baptist Church and was a retired seamstress with Short Manufacturing. She enjoyed the outdoors, working with flowers, reading, sewing, traveling and spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Stephens was also preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Melvin Thomas Stephens; daughters, Kathy Mirem Stephens and Glenda Lorane Stephens; brothers, Leonard Shirley and Cedron Shirley; sister, Angie Pritchett.
Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Eddie Palmer of Alto; son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Jill Stephens of Mt. Airy; grandchildren, Traci Farlow (Kevin), Tyler Stephens and Corey Palmer (Melinda); great grandchild, Logan Palmer; sister, Ona Belle Buchanan of Demorest; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Saturday, July 19, 2014, at the Chapel of McGahee-Griffin & Stewart with Rev. James Lyons, Dr. Bill Barrs and Rev. Matt Stephens officiating. Interment will follow in Camp Creek Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 & 6-8 pm on Friday at the funeral home.
