Mr. John Morris Laseter, age 74 passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014.
John was born December 19, 1939 in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated from Bass High School and Memphis State University, Memphis, Tennessee. He proudly served in the Marine Corps for "four years, six months and 18 days." He was chosen to serve as a Marine Security Guard for over two years in Tel Aviv, Israel. He was on duty and delivered the message to the American Ambassador to Israel the day President Kennedy was assassinated. He was retired from United Airlines as a Customer Service Agent. In 1969, John married Judy Pettis Laseter. They were married for almost 45 years. From their union came two children and eight grandchildren. Six and one half years ago he and Judi moved to Toccoa, Georgia. He served as head of the elder board at First Alliance Church in Toccoa.
Survivors include his wife, Judi Pettis Laseter of the home; two children, Jennie Claeys (Michael) of Marietta, Georgia and their four children, Julia Ann, Jake, John Henry and Georgia; his son, John Harvard (Jay) Laseter (Beth) of Winder, Georgia and their four children, Tyler, Samantha, Alex and Rebekah. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews plus cousins and a host of friends.
Memorial service will be Thursday, July 10, 2014, 6 O'clock PM at the First Alliance Church, Toccoa, Georgia with the Reverend Scott Borderud officiating.
Military Honors will be provided by the U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard and the V.F.W. Post 4346.
