Mrs. Tillie Anne Gray,94, of Gainesville died Tuesday June 29,2014 at Lanier Village Estates.
​Born on March 17, 1920 in Phoenix City, Alabama,she was the daughter of the late William A Barr, Jr. and Mary Winifred McKnight Barr. She was a graduate of Columbus H.S; Deagnan's Business School; University Of Georgia, Off Campus. After graduation she worked for the Finance Division of USPS at Ft. Benning during World War II. She was a loving housewife and mother.
She enjoyed being active in several organizations including; United Daughters of the Confederacy, Nat. Association of Fed. Retired Employees, Us Power Squadron, Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority, Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority, Federation of Women's Clubs, Garden Clubs of Georgia, and Charter Member of the Landings Golf Club. She Won Many Awards For Her African Violets And Amaryllis And Flower Arranging. She attended Gainesville First United Methodist Church. She was a former Charter Member of Skidaway Island Presbyterian Church. She sang In Choirs for over 50 Years.
While living at Lanier Village Estates, she enjoyed activities that included pool, mah-jongg, reading, volunteering, walking, fishing, cooking and sewing. Anne also had a Girl Scout Troop and was in bowling groups.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husbands; Emile G. Abbott, Jr. and Mack H. Gray, Jr.
She is survived by her son, Dr. Emile G. Abbott, III, of Del Rio, TX; daughter, Helen Abbott Johnson of Ormond Beach, FL; three grandchildren, one great-granddaughter; 2 step sons; 2 step grandchildren & 5 step great grandchildren
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2014 at Lanier Village Estate Chapel. Rev. Richard Evans will officiate. The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home on Monday, July 7, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Entombment will be at Park Hill Mausoleum in Columbus. GA.
