Maj. Lawrence Thomas Haddock, Jr. (U.S.A.F., Ret.), of Cumming, GA, passed away Sunday, June 22. He was a beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was born December 9, 1917 in Snow Hill, Maryland. He graduated from Snow Hill High School in 1935 and attended college in Delaware. He was preceded in death by his wife of 70 years, Beatrice Imogene Haddock.
He was inspired by Charles Lindbergh's flight over the Atlantic Ocean in 1927 and followed the flight with his mother, Grace. He joined the U.S. Army Air Corp at Langley Field, Virginia in November 1936 as a Private with the 2nd Bombardment Group. He retired from the 3rd Bombardment Group as a Major at Yakota Air Base in Japan in September 1963.
His service included World War II in Europe and Asia including Iwo Jima, Saipan, and Tinian. He also served in Korea during the Korean War and Vietnam in Troop Carrier Operations. He was stationed at numerous bases in the United States and served in the Army of Occupation in Germany and in Japan after World War II.
He was Flight Acceptance Test Pilot for the U.S. Air Force at the Lockheed
