Raymond Mancel Oliver, age 76, of Clermont, went to be with the Lord on Friday, June 20, 2014. after a long illness. A native of Hall County,he was preceded in death by his parents Dean and Ara Oliver, sisters Bernice Shubert, Virginia Hulsey and Ardelle Sammons, brothers John Oliver, Garnett Oliver, and Telford Oliver, and father-in-law and mother-in-law Elbert and Nellie Belle Nix. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Emogene of Clermont; his son and daughter-in-law, and granddaughter Greg, Pam, and Hayley Oliver of Lawrenceville; his brother and sister-in-law Myron and Leila Oliver of Clermont; brothers-in-law and sister-in-laws Floyd and Gaynelle Beach of Clermont, James and Rachel Nix of Clermont, Harold and Brenda Nix of Gainesville, Hugh and Janice Nix of Clermont, Larry and Linda Watkins of Cleveland, James and Brenda Miller of Gainesville; numerous nieces,nephews, and cousins and a host of friends. Mancel was born on September 25, 1937, the youngest of eight children. He attended Brookton Elementary and graduated from Clermont High School in 1955. He married Emogene, the love of his life, on January 26, 1957. Mancel served in the United States Army, stationed in Berlin Germany. Upon returning to civilian life, he worked in a variety of jobs, including years of devoted service with Potter and Brumfield and Con-Agra. He is a longtime member of Concord Baptist Church in Clermont, where he has served faithfully in many positions, including deacon and church clerk. He was a charter member of the North Hall Lions Club, where he filled several leadership positions, including President, and was nominated by his fellow mambers for the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellow Award. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Sunday in Concord Baptist Church. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The Dr. Levi Skipper and Dr. Jimmy McAdams will officiate. Visitation will be Saturday June 21, 2014 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers it is requested that donations be made to the 777 fund at Concord Baptist Church Clermont, Ga. Strickland Funeral Home, Clermont, Ga.
