Martha L. Cain

Obituary Date: Thursday, June 19, 2014
Martha L. Cain age 89 of Chestnut Mountain passed away Thursday, June 19, 2014 at The Oaks at Limestone following an extended illness.

Funeral services are scheduled for Sunday, June 22, 2014 at 2:00pm in the Chapel of Memorial Park Funeral Home with interment to follow in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Reverend David Matthews and Reverend Joel Trigg will officiate. The family will receive friends on Saturday June 21, 2014 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. Cain was born on June 05, 1925 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Luther and Dora Davis Turner. She was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Mrs. Cain spent most of her life and career as a nurse, which she loved, beginning work at the Downey Hospital in Gainesville and later working at the Old Hall County Hospital and the Northeast Georgia Medical Center in all departments. After retirement she did private duty nursing for many years and ended her career as a nurse at Riverside Military Academy. Throughout the years she served others in her community by nursing them. In addition to her parents Mrs. Cain was also preceded in death by her brothers, Berry and Carlton Turner, sister, Magdalene Dobbins, and several brother-in-laws, Brent Cain, Norman Bragg, sisters-in-law, Fairy Turner and Bertha Garrett.

Martha loved her family dearly and is survived by her husband of 66 years, William Bruce Cain, daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Ronny Martin of Flowery Branch, son and daughter-in-law, Jimmy and Nancy Cain of Griffin, grand-daughters, Julie Long of Flowery Branch, Beth Cain of Griffin, Georgia, Kristy and Cameron Vigil of Broomfield, CO, Jenny & Bill Glass of Jackson, GA and Brandi and Gary Moye of Byron, Ga. The joy and love of her life were her grand-children and great-grandchildren, Kaitlin Gooch, Logan and Brayden Long, Ben and Emily Vigil, Natalie and Nicole Ellis, and Hunter Moye. Also surviving are brothers, Joe (Alice) Turner of Cleveland, Herbert Turner of Dahlonega, sister, Mary Jett of Cleveland, brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, J.R. Cain, Frank (Mae) Cain, Pat (Mary Ann) Cain, Ether (Stanley) Murphy and Joyce Bragg as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all the special staff at The Oaks who helped care for her during her recent illness, as well as special friends, Ouida and Danny Strickland.
