Dr. James Waldo Langford

Obituary Date: Friday, June 13, 2014
Dr. James Waldo Langford of Gainesville, Ga. went to be with the Lord on June 13, 2014 at the age of 74. He was preceeded in death by his parents, James Mabry Langford and Laura Mae (Gill) Langford of Manchester, GA.

A loving father and grandfather, he is survived by his 3 children: Christi McDonald of Chattanooga, TN, Debbie Ellis of Athens, GA, Bradley Langford of Athens, GA, and dear friend Linda Strickland of Gainesville, GA. He has 9 grandchildren: Lindsay Duke, Brandon McDonald, Joy Van Der Noord, Kristen Ellis, John Ellis, Hope McDonald, Faith McDonald, Ashley Langford, and Aaron Langford, as well as 3 great-grandchildren: Audrey, Claudia, and Ava Duke.

Dr. Langford was a native of Meriwether County and graduated from Manchester High School in 1958 where he excelled at Blue Devil athletics. He continued his education earning his Doctor of Chiropractic degree in 1965 from Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa. In 1966 he began his professional practice and opened Langford Chiropractic Center in Gainesville, GA. For 35 years Dr. Langford enjoyed a rewarding career serving his patients with integrity and compassion until his retirement in 2001. In 2007, he established the Langford Family Scholarship Fund at Life University providing financial assistance to deserving young people pursuing a Doctor of Chiropractic degree. He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church in Manchester.

Dr. Langford enjoyed golf, travel, and spending time with his family and life-long friends. His suggestion to have a bi-annual gathering of hometown buddies resulted in the "Cookout Club" which has gathered regularly over the last 15 years and draws a crowd of over 100.

Visitation will be held on Monday, June 16, 2014 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Smith-Steele-Meadows Funeral Home in Manchester, GA. The funeral service will be held at the graveside on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 11:00 am at Meriwether Memory Gardens, Manchester GA.
Flowers will be accepted or those who desire may make memorial contributions to either the St. Jude Childrens Hospital 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105, or the Dr. Charles F. Stanley's In Touch Ministries P.O. Box 7900, Atlanta GA 30357.
