Janie Pleasants Warren Taylor

Janie Pleasants Warren Taylor, 83, of 2732 Old Highway 441, Tiger, Georgia, widow of Melvin Taylor, died on June 14, 2014. She was born on November 18, 1930, to the late Clyde Arrendale Pleasants English and Miles Otis Pleasants. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother Jim Pleasants and her first husband Doug Warren.



A long-time resident of Rabun County, she graduated from Rabun County High School, Class of 1947, and was a 1952 graduate of the University of Georgia. Mrs. Taylor was a retired educator, a storyteller, and a regular contributor to the Georgia Mountain Laurel magazine. An active member of the Tiger United Methodist Church, she served as church historian and organist. She enjoyed quilting, painting, writing and was the author of two book collections of her essays.



She was an active member of the Rabun County Historical Society, Friends of the Lillian Smith Center, the Rabun County and Georgia Retired Teachers Associations, Foxfire, and the Rabun County Senior Center.



Survivors include her daughters Judy W. Scott of Clarkesville, Becky W. Ray (Mike) of Cornelia, and Dawne W. Bryan (Randy) of Cochran, and her son, Wesley L. Taylor (Karen) of Clarkesville; grandchildren Brooks Ray (Katie), Vince Ray (Shelley), Zack Bryan (Brittany), Blake Scott (Melissa), Whitney R. Cox (Leland), Kelli S. Dunlap (Nathan), Beau Bryan (Katharine), Renn Taylor, Arren Taylor, and Cami Taylor; great-grandchildren Preston and Parker Cox; V.J. and Landry Ray; Kaleigh, Bowman, and Lillian Ray; Will, Nathan, and Tommy Bryan; Katie Elizabeth Nanney and Ella Grace Scott; Charlie Jane Dunlap; and Ava Bryan; sister Peggy Thrasher (Albert) of Tiger, sisters-in-law Jeanne Pleasants of St. Simons Island, Waunett Sexton of Clayton, Shelby Blackburn (Frankie) of Canton, Claudette Bramlett (Gayther) of Ellijay; brother-in-law Allen Taylor of Clayton; cousins, nieces, and nephews; devoted caregiver, Sandra O'Neil; and her loyal pets, Brownee and Blue.



The family would like to thank Assist Homecare Services, Traces of Tiger, and Regency Hospice for their dedication and support.



The family will be at Ma Clyde's House, 2670 Old Highway 441 in Tiger.



In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Arrendale Endowed Scholarship, Young Harris College, P. O. Box 275, Young Harris, GA, 30582, or to the charity of one's choice.



The family will greet friends Monday, June 16 from 1-3 pm and 5 - 7 pm at Beck Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at 11:00 am at the Tiger United Methodist Church, 64 Pleasant Place Rd., Tiger, Georgia.



A private interment will be held at a later date.
