Rev. Virgil Glen Megill

Obituary Date: Thursday, June 12, 2014
​Dr. Virgil Glen Megill, Jr. died Thursday, June 12 in Gainesville, GA the home of his daughter Caroline Newbern. He was 90 years of age.

Virgil was born in 1924 in Lyons, Kansas to V. Glen and Madge Olney Megill. After graduation from Hutchinson High School he attended New York University, Union Theological Seminary and Columbia University Teachers College.

He was ordained by the United Brethren Church and pastored churches in Indiana, New Jersey, New York City, Pennsylvania and Georgia and was the founding pastor of St. Paul's United Methodist Church (now Christ UM Church) in Fairless Hills, PA. Virgil also taught Communications at Toccoa Falls College in Georgia where his wife Ruth served as Administrative Assistant to the college President.

Virgil was very active in civil clubs. He and wife, Ruth, were very active in the Toccoa Lions Club serving in several capacities including President. He also published award winning local and district Lions Club newsletters and served as the club historian.

Virgil was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ruth Armstrong Megill and a sister, Rose Henry, Oxford IN. He is survived by a sister, Faith Kamm (wife of Dr. Frank Kamm), Kearney, NE; a son, V Glen III (husband of Linda Tunstead Megill) of Huntington Beach, CA; and two daughters, Margaret Mull (wife of John Mull), Dillsburg, PA and Caroline Newbern (wife of Rev. Danny Newbern) of Gainesville, GA; 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grand children.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday June 15, 2014 at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
