Carey King Williamson Jr.

Carey King Williamson Jr., 91, of Clayton, Georgia, died June 7, 2014.

Carey was born September 16, 1922, in Macon, Georgia, the son of the late Carey King Williamson and Iva Mae Weaver Williamson. As a child he traveled with The Boy Scouts on Lake Rabun, where he had fond memories of Rabun County. After graduating high school, he entered the Navy and served in the Pacific Theater during the entirety of WWII. After returning home, he married Mary Griggs Williamson in 1946 and returned to Rabun County for their honeymoon. They stayed in the Bleckley Hotel in Clayton. He stated that he wanted to live in Clayton someday. Carey was employed with Central Georgia Railways and then Norfolk Southern Railways, where he retired. After retirement he got his wish, he was able to purchase a home in Clayton in 1982, and has lived in Clayton ever since. He became an active member of St. James Episcopal Church and loved his church family. Carey was a loving husband to his wife of 68 years and loving father to his children.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Williamson was preceded in death by a sister, Roberta Williamson Parker.

He is survived by his wife; son, Carey King Williamson III of Georgetown, SC; daughters Catherine Irene Williamson of Clayton, GA and Mary Louise Williamson of Marietta, GA; four grandchildren, Tracy L. Williamson, Patrick S. Marks, Chris R. Williamson and Georgia W. Bixler; three great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews also survive.

The family will have a memorial service 5:30 PM, Thursday June 12, 2014 at St. James Episcopal Church with Father Steve Hall officiating.
