Roy Lee Garrett

Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Mr. Roy Lee Garrett, age 89, of Jefferson, Georgia, who entered into rest Friday, June 6, 2014.

Mr. Garrett was born in Jefferson, Georgia a son of the late, James Albert and Dessie Watkins Garrett. Mr. Garrett was a WWII Veteran of the United States Army serving in the Pacific Theatre, including the Philippines and Japan as a military police officer. Mr. Garrett was a long time devoted member of Faith Baptist Church and was relied heavily upon for landscaping advice, as he was a Master Gardener in his own right. For over sixty years, he worked his family farm which included Dairy, Poultry and Cattle farming. In addition to his parents, Mr. Garrett is preceded by his wives, Evelyn Dalton Garrett and Maureen Lee Garrett. Sisters Ruth Johnstone and Lois Garrett, brother, James Garrett and a niece, Linda Campbell.

A loving family survives Mr. Garrett including a daughter, Judy Beatty and her husband Mike of Jefferson, Sister, Willie Nell Garrett of Jefferson, and brother Hoyt Garrett and his wife Lois of Pendergrass. One grandchild, Amanda Beatty Sorrow of Jefferson, three great grandsons, Lane, Logan and Lincoln Sorrow. One step daughter, Regina Martin and her husband Winsel, two step grandchildren, Nathan Martin, and Natasha Prater and three step great grandchildren along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, June 9, 2014 from the Faith Baptist Church with Dr. Keith Cudd and Reverend Bill Carpenter officiating with burial to follow in Jackson Memorial Park, Commerce, Georgia. Honored as pallbearers are Lane Sorrow, Clay Skinner, Charlie Watson, Bubba House, Roy Martin, Storey Tate, Benard Reynolds and Nathan Martin. Billy Watson will serve as an honorary pallbearer. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, June 8, 2014, 1-3 and 5-8 P.M.
