James Corbett Hames Jr.

James Corbett Hames, Jr., age 89, of Clarkesville, Georgia passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014.

Mr. Hames was born on August 12, 1924 in Clarkesville, Georgia; son of the late James Corbett and Grace Woodall Hames. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, LaVerne Mathews Hames; granddaughter, Tessa Whitney Hames; brother, Hubert Monroe (Bud) Hames; and sister Helen Hames Dixon. Mr. Hames was a member of Clarkesville Baptist Church and Clarkesville Masonic Lodge #325 F. & A.M.; He was a United States WW2 Veteran serving in the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters and was a retired United States Postal System Rural Mail Carrier, with 27 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Louise Lovell York Hames, Clarkesville; daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Wayne Shugart, Flowery Branch; sons, James Corbett Hames, III, Mt. Airy, Roy T. Hames, Mt. Airy; brother, John Davis Hames, Clarkesville; 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild and several step-grandchildren.

Graveside services by are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 2, 2014, at Yonah Memorial Gardens, Demorest, Georgia with Rev. Grady Walden officiating. Military honors and graveside honors by Clarkesville Masonic Lodge #325 F. & A.M. will be held.

The family will receive friends on from 10:00-11:00 a.m. on June 2, 2014 at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel, Demorest, Georgia.
