James William York

James William York, age 89, of Demorest, Georgia passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 following a brief illness.

Mr. York was born on January 14, 1925 in Rabun County, Georgia; son of the late John Calvin and Frances Patton York. He attended Habersham Baptist Church, and is a member of Clarkesville Masonic Lodge #325 F. & A.M.; having received his 60 year apron. Mr. York was a United States Navy WWII Veteran. He was a retired employee of Clarkesville Mill-United Merchants with 41 years of service and was a beekeeper.

Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Dorothy Pritchett York; daughters and sons-in-law, Donna Faye and Darrell Tucker, Janice Lynn (Jan) and Rick Hames, Jody Leigh and David Wall; sons and daughters-in-law, James Michael (Jimmy) and Wanda York, Rev. Chris Douglas and Sharon York; grandchildren, Paige Farrow, James B. York, John Michael York, Joseph York, Kevin York, Jeremy York, Jason Roberts; and 10 great-grandchildren. Mr. York was the last of his immediate family.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 1, 2014, at Whitfield Funeral Home, North Chapel with Rev. Doug Porter, Rev. Charles Taylor and Rev. Chris York officiating. Interment will follow in Habersham Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2014.
