Hazel Smith

Ms. Hazel Smith, age 64, of Gainesville, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following an unexpected sudden illness.


The Celebration of Life Service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, June 2, 2014 at Greater Timber Ridge Baptist Church (Athens Highway), Gainesville. Her remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends and loved ones from 6:00 to 9:00 pm Sunday, June 1, 2014 at the funeral home.


Ms. Hazel was born July 15, 1949, the daughter of the late Mr. James Smith and Ms. Annie Bell Jackson. Formerly of Banks County Ms. Hazel resided here in Gainesville where she pursued her passion for loving kids with the Ninth District of Hall County, holding several positions throughout their program for over 25 years. Later she would become a Residential Professional Personal Governess for Mrs. Beth Weikel. For the next 25 years, assisting her with the upbringing of her children, Ms. Elizabeth Hood, Ms. Maggie Hood and Mr. Bill Hood.


Ms. Hazel leaves to cherish her memories: her two beautiful daughters Ms. Andrea W Dukes (Future Son in law) Mr. Jeff Jones and Mrs. Sonya (Tim) Rucker. Along with three grandchildren whom she adored dearly: Ms. Adondra Dukes, Ms. Tamia Rucker and Mr. Tim Rucker Jr. One long life special friend: Mr. Dwight Jackson.

Five loving sisters: Mrs. Annie (TC) Nunley, Ms. Joanne Merritt, Mrs. Michelle (Thomas) Beasley, Ms. Bonita Eberthart (all from Gainesville Ga.) and Ms. Lee Vonne Smith (Robins IL).Two loving brothers: Mr. Anthony (Barbara Ann) Jackson, and Mr. Kenneth Waller. Two Aunts: Mrs. Pearlie Mae Sadler and Ms. Mary Law. She also has a host of nieces, nephews and other family members.
