Emmett Holley

Obituary Date: Sunday, May 25, 2014
Mr. Emmett Holley, 52 of Gainesville died Sunday May 25, 2014 at his residence surrounded by his loving family after a valiant fight with cancer.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Mr. Holley was a former resident of Dalton, Georgia before moving to Gainesville, Georgia over 30 years ago. He was a graduate of Northwest Whitfield High School in Dalton and was also a graduate of Southern Poly Tech in Marietta. Mr. Holley was a construction engineer at Federal Mogul and also worked for America's Home Place and David Weekly Homes as a project manager/builder and most recently for IMS Gear. Mr. Holley was a member of the First Baptist Church on Green Street in Gainesville where he served as a deacon, in the church choir and went on Mission trips in service to the Lord. He loved his church family.

Emmett loved God and said he didn't care if you remembered his name or not, as long as you remembered God's name. He loved his children and his "puppies." He was the best husband, father and friend anyone could have prayed for. He had a kind heart and gentle spirit and it showed in his sweet smile. We know God is saying, "Well done my good and faithful servant."

Survivors include his wife, Ellen Stratton Holley; son, William Andrew Holley; daughter, Jessica Lauren Truelove, all of Gainesville; parents, Bill and Nell Holley, Dalton, Ga., sister and brother-in-law, Kathy and Gene Gray, Marietta; nephews, Ethan and Bryant Gray, Marietta; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mark and Dr. Patricia Stratton, Blairsville; nephew, David Stratton, Blairsville; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mike and Amy Jones, Clermont; niece, Molly Jones, Clermont. Also a number of close friends and other relatives.

The Memorial service to celebrate the life of Emmett Holley will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday May 28, 2014 at the First Baptist Church on Green Street. The Rev. Dr. Bill Coates will officiate. The family will receive friends in the lobby of the church banquet hall following the memorial service. Prior to the Memorial Service a private family inurnment will be held in the church columbarium.

In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial contributions be made to the Ministry of Caring or the Music Department of the First Baptist Church, Hospice of Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Good News at Noon Clinic, or a charity of ones choice in memory of Mr. Holley.
