Obituary Date: Monday, May 19, 2014
Roy Dews, age 87, of Suwanee, Georgia passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 after a long bout with Parkinson's Disease. Roy grew up in Lynchburg, VA. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Wood Dews and is survived by their two daughters, Jane Woods (Skip) and Susan Dews Perry. Roy is also survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Marie Anderson Dews and by his two stepsons, Alan Caldwell (Linda) and Buddy Haggerty (Charli), and their children, Jared Caldwell, Valerie Haggerty and Summer Haggerty.
Roy joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 during World War II. When the war ended, he enrolled in Phillips Business College. After graduating at 20 years of age, he started a life-long career with NCR Corporation where he became somewhat of a legend. He rose from Officeman to Branch Manager and then a Regional Director. Roy was a strong leader and many young men who worked under him attribute their success in life to his mentoring and emphasis on discipline, integrity, loyalty and hard work.
Roy was a loving father and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He enjoyed spending one-on-one time with family members and was often sought out for guidance and advice. He was a committed Christian and a faithful member of Creekside United Methodist Church in Cumming, Georgia.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, May 25, at 2:00 p.m. at Creekside United Methodist Church, 673 Peachtree Parkway, Cumming, Georgia 30041.
