Clovie Elizabeth McJunkin Lawson

Clovie Elizabeth McJunkin Lawson was born July 10, 1920 and died on May 18, 2014 at the age of 93.



Born in Seneca SC in 1920, she moved to Tignall, GA at age 11 and then to Gainesville at age 16. She attended Gainesville Public schools and was a graduate of Gainesville High School in 1937. She was on the first women's basketball team from Gainesville High to play in a state playoff in 1936. She attended the University of Georgia and married L.D. in 1939.



She was involved with her children as a leader in Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Camp Fire Girls and many grade mother duties.



She and her husband L.D. were charter founders of Lakeview Academy. She was an active member of First Baptist Church for the past 80 years, where she served on many committees including teaching Sunday school in the children's department and was a member of the Winsome Sunday school class.



She was preceded in death by her loving husband, L.D. Lawson, her beloved daughter, Elizabeth Dee Morris, her devoted son, George Dean Lawson and grandson, Jeffrey Scott Lawson; her parents, Elbert Nathaniel and Dossie McJunkin, brother, Guy McJunkin; sisters, Jeanette (Penny) McJunkin Morrison and Christine McJunkin Moss.



Mrs. Lawson is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Vince Davis, also by her son Gene Lawson and his wife Louise. Grandchildren: Nath Morris and wife Joy, Beth Morris Hemmer and husband, Lee, Chris Lawson, David Lawson, Claire Lawson, Eleanor Lawson, Taylor Davis and Travis Davis. Great-grandchildren: Megan Morris, Jennifer Morris, Emily Lawson, Isabella Durden. Brandon Wilson and Lauren Hemmer. Sister, Roena McJunkin of Newport News, VA and a number of nieces, nephews, special friends and neighbors are Tommy and Monica Turner.



A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday May 21, 2014 at the First Baptist Church on Green Street. Interment will be Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Bill Coates and Rev. Bruce Fields will officiate. The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.



In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to The Ministry of Caring, First Baptist Church or to a charity of your choice.
