Mary Ellen Maxie English

Mary Ellen Maxie English, 84, of Toccoa, Georgia, beloved wife of the late William Aubrey English, passed peacefully to her eternal life on May 14, 2014 in Augusta, Georgia surrounded by family.



Mary was born on November 18, 1929 in Walhalla, South Carolina. She lived most of her life in Toccoa, Georgia. She was employed with Coats and Clark for a number of years and later worked with her husband Aubrey at English Linoleum and Carpet of Toccoa. She was a member of the Toccoa Congrational Holiness Church. She is survived by her son, Royce O. English (Terrie) of Martinez, Georgia; daughters-in-law, Joyce English of Toccoa, Georgia and Carmen English of Athens, Georgia; sister Alice Whitworth of Walhalla, South Carolina and sisters Virginia "Nomi" Williams and Mary Moore (Ray) and brother, Herman Holbrooks, all of Westminister, South Carolina; 11 grandchildren and a host of great- and great-great-grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews.



Mary was preceded in death by her beloved Granny, Hassie Stancil Maxie; mother, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Holbrooks; daughter, Nellie Mae English Finley and son-in-law Joe V. Finley; sons Aubrey Bruce "Jimmy" English and Jerry Claude "Jake" English; sisters Adgie Shead and Evelyn Watkins; brothers Clyde "Junior" Holbrooks and Ralph Holbrooks.



Pallbearers will be grandsons Joe Aubrey Finley, Gene Finley, Dwayne English, William "Billy" English, Brent English and Royce O. English, Jr.



Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, May 19, 2014 at 2:00 at Acree-Davis Funeral Home. The family will leave for a graveside service at 2:45 p.m. at Stephens Memorial Gardens.
