Evans Funeral Home announces the death of Ms. Helen J. Motes, age 82, of Jefferson, who entered into rest Sunday, May 11, 2014. Ms. Motes was born in Jackson County, a daughter to the late Roy J. Motes Sr. and the late Mae Belle Bradbury Motes. Ms. Motes was a member of the first graduating class of Jefferson High School, graduated from Perry Business College, was retired from the Georgia Department of Labor after 34 years of service in the Gainesville, Georgia area and retired from the Jackson County Board of Commissioners as Executive Assistant to the County Manager. Ms. Motes was also a member of the Victory Baptist Church in Jefferson. In addition to her parents, Ms. Motes was preceded in death by her brother, R.J. Motes Jr., and her son in law, Harry M. McDonald Jr.
Survivors include her son and daughter in law, David and Pam Motes of Nicholson, daughter, Elizabeth Motes of Jefferson, grandchildren, Rebecca Motes (Asa) Poole , Robert Motes of Jefferson, Katie McDonald (James) Bowen of Jacksonville, NC and nephew, Chris (Gail) Motes of Jefferson.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Evans Funeral Home with Mr. Charlie Howington officiating. The burial will follow in the Woodbine Cemetery in Jefferson, Georgia. The visitation will be held on Tuesday from 5-8pm at Evans Funeral Home.
