Irene Arve Cabe Scott

Mrs. Irene Arve Cabe Scott, age 96 of Columbia, SC and formerly of Toccoa, Georgia passed away Wednesday, April 30, 2014 in Columbia, South Carolina.

A daughter of the late Lloyd and Lena Shirley Arve, she was born October 31, 1917 in Madison, South Carolina. She lived most of her adult life in Stephens County, Georgia. She married R.L. Cabe in 1939 and they settled in Toccoa. When civilian medical personnel were needed during World War II, Irene trained as a Practical Nurse and worked at Stephens County Hospital during the war years. After the death of her husband in 1971, she worked in food service at Camp Mikell in Stephens County. She later married Ben Scott and moved from her Toccoa Creek home to the Rock Creek Community. She was a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church for more than seventy years and was a member of the Joy Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Pickens and Peggy Cabe and by a brother, Clarence Arve.

Irene is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth and Carole Cabe of Columbia, South Carolina; two grandsons, and one great-grandson.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, at Stephens Memorial Gardens with Mr. Clarence Davis officiating.

The family will receive friends at the Acree-Davis Funeral Home one hour prior to the graveside service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rock Creek Baptist Church, 3729 Rock Creek Road, Toccoa, Georgia in memory of Mrs. Irene Cabe Scott.

Interment will be in Stephens Memorial Gardens with the Acree-Davis Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Irene Cabe Scott.
