Mary Juanita Highsmith Lawson Ewing, lovingly known as "Other-Mama", age 90, of Gainesville, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center.
Mrs Ewing was born on February 24, 1924 in Clermont, Georgia to the late Marvin Willis David Highsmith and Lou Belle Waters Highsmith. She was preceded in death by her late husband, Henry Lee Lawson Sr.; her brothers, John Wendall Highsmith and Nevel Lee Highsmith, and her sister, Helen Lawson.
She is survived by her husband, Henry Bartow Ewing; her daughter, Barbara Ann Lawson Ross of Athens; daughter and son-in-law, Harry and Betty Lawson Gurganus; daughter, Anita Kay Lawson; son and daughter-in-law, Henry and Lisa Lawson all of Gainesville; step-son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Susan Ewing, of Hampton, Ga.; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and several special nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Ewing was devoted to her family and her Lord. She was a charter member of Lakewood Baptist Church where for many years she cooked Wednesday night supper. Mrs. Ewing also served as cafeteria manager at Gainesville High School for twenty-one years. It filled her heart with joy to have a house full of family and friends and a table full of food she had prepared with love.
Funeral services will be held Friday April 25, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Lakewood Baptist Church with the burial to follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Dr. Tom Smiley, Rev. Jerry Gill and Rev. Don Ormsbee will officiate. The family will receive friends from 4
