Irene Whelchel Brooks

Irene Whelchel Brooks, May 18, 1920 - April 18, 2014 - Age 93

Irene may be best remembered in North Georgia for her wedding cake catering business. She was very a very talented artist in many fields including porcelain doll making. She was loving and supportive of everyone.

She has the privilege of celebrating Easter with her husband, Howard Brooks, son, Jim Brooks, parents, Joe and Maggie Whelchel, and siblings Ernest Whelchel, Ruth Nix, and Blanche Cash who preceded her in death.

Irene has left a wonderful legacy in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Her family is appreciative of her love for the Lord and her family. She is survived by her children, Evelyn and Bob Barnard of Wilmore of KY, Barbara and Arnold Johnson of Jacksonville, NC, grandchildren, Kimberly Barnard, Todd and Krista Padgett, Jimmy Brooks of Wilmore of KY, Nathan and Jamie Johnson of Fairburn, OH, Stephen and Cristina Johnson of Charles Town, WV, Jamie Brooks of Gainesville, GA, 12 great grandchildren, siblings, Reverend Albert Whelchel of Lexington, KY, sister-in-law Jeanette Whelchel of Chestnut Mtn., Georgia, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Irene brooks will be held Monday, April 21, 2014 at 2 PM at Chestnut Mtn. Presbyterian Church, Chestnut Mtn., GA. Reverend John Batusic, Reverend Bob Barnard, and Reverend Arnold Johnson will officiate. Viewing will be at the church before the service from 1 - 2 PM. Interment will be in the church cemetery. Arrangements will be handled by Memorial Park Funeral Park Funeral Home.
