William James (Will) Carswell

Obituary Date: Friday, April 18, 2014

William James Carswell, 51, of Gainesville, GA died suddenly Friday morning, April 18, 2014, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center with his children by his side. He was born on March 7, 1963 in Waycross, GA and was the son of the late Matthew Jackson Carswell and Mary London James Carswell.

Will's most favorite days were spent coaching soccer to his kids and their teammates. His knowledge and love of soccer impacted many in the Hall County area. He got so much pleasure watching his kids play all sports. Growing up with a father who played the organ, Will innately learned to appreciate the pipe organ. He visited many churches just to see and hear a fine instrument. Watching and learning all about airplanes was a great pastime of Will's. He had a love for trivia and was known as "the keeper of odd knowledge." Time with his family and friends on the lake were the most special. Will enjoyed every moment on the lake and especially on his boat.

Will is survived by his children, Rand Carswell, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; Mary London Carswell, Haughton Carswell, and Emmy Carswell, all of Gainesville; a brother, Matthew Jackson Carswell Jr. of Atlanta, a sister, the Rev. Mary London "Maly" Carswell Hughes and her husband, Allan, of San Jose, CA; his partner, Jennifer Lester of Gainesville, nieces and nephews, Mary Adams Chin and her husband Kevin, New York, NY; Betsy Adams, San Francisco, CA; Winston Adams and his wife, Kristine, San Jose, CA. He's also survived by several cousins of Savannah, GA and Waycross, GA.

The celebration of his life will be held Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 1:30 pm at Grace Episcopal Church in Gainesville, GA. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. Will's ashes will be spread in the place he loved most.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests gifts be made to the Organ Fund at St. Francis Episcopal Church, 1205 Pine Ave, San Jose, CA 95125, where Will's sister is the rector.
