Virginia Moose Harkins

Mrs. Virginia Moose Harkins, age 84, of Suches, GA died Thursday, April 10, 2014.

Virginia was a lifelong resident of Union County where she graduated from Woody Gap High School as the Valedictorian of the class of 1947. She retired from Southern Switches Corporation in Dahlonega, and was a member of Zion Baptist Church in Suches. She was a devoted Christian with a servant's heart, and had an infinite love for her family. Virginia's compassion for others and hospitality was extended to everyone she met. Her many talents included cooking, gardening, and crocheting.

The daughter of the late Grady Garl and Carrie Jarrard Moose, Virginia was also preceded in death by her son, Dennis Harkins; sister, Christine Seabolt; brother, Emory Moose; niece, Nancy Gilstrap; and nephew, Robbie Moose.

She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Clyde Harkins; son, Dwight Harkins; daughter and son-in-law, Dianne and Larry Wood; all of Suches, GA; daughter-in-law, Terri White Harkins, Clayton, GA; former daughter-in-law, Carol Harkins, Carolina Shores, NC; brother and special friend, Garland Moose and Angie Smith, Suches, GA; sister, Jean Betsil, Dahlonega, GA; grandchildren, Blaine Harkins, Brandon and Cheryl Harkins, Britton Harkins, Connie Wood Webster, Carval Wood Grizzle, and Casey and Adam Faulkner. 11 great grandchildren and a number of other relatives also survive.

Funeral services for Virginia are scheduled for 2 PM Sunday, April 13, 2014 Zion Baptist Church in Suches, GA.

Rev Paul Wright, Rev. Michael Wilkes, Rev. Doug Merck, Rev. Gerald Edmondson, and Dr. Don Pruitt will officiate.

Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Harkins will lay in state at the church on Sunday from 1:30 PM until 2 PM.

The family will receive friends at Banister Funeral Home in Dahlonega on Saturday, April 12, 2014 from 4 PM until 8 PM.
