John Bunyan Vickers

Obituary Date: Tuesday, April 8, 2014

John Bunyan Vickers, age 67, of Flowery Branch, passed away at Northeast Georgia Medical Center on Tuesday, April 8, 2014.

He was born in Atlanta at Crawford Long Hospital and was proud of being a native Atlantan. John graduated from Druid Hills High School and went on to further education at DeKalb College. John met Ina Putnam, and she became the light of his life. He loved her dearly and always was there with help and support. In January of 1983. John became the proud and happy father to his baby son, John Patrick Vickers.

In 1987, John became the father of his daughter, Brianna Kathleen Vickers Daniel. She and his precious son became part of the light of his life too. Patrick Vickers, as well as Brianna Daniel live in Cumming. John loved his children all there was to love and they returned that love. He was very proud of them. He has three granddaughters and one grandson of whom he was extra proud. John, additionally, is survived by his two sisters; Ann Vickers (Dave) Huffine of Lawrenceville, and Mary Vickers Blakely (Gil) of Loganville, GA. He is also survived by his niece Nancy Bass Hightower (Kenneth). John's furry little friends will mourn his passing; Gracie and Casey - his beloved Dachshunds.

John served, proudly, in the United States Air Force from April 1967 until January 1973. The most important thing about John was his generosity and his charity. He often, contributed to St. Jude Children's' Cancer Research Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Every year, around Christmas, John would ask around and find a needy family. He would then have a certified check cut, and have someone deliver it, and it was done anonymously. John owned and operated a commercial and industrial Electrical Contracting Company in the Atlanta area for almost 40 years. He was well respected and took pride in being a perfectionist. We, his family and friends, will miss John forever; he was an original, and there'll never be another one like him. He will be missed forever.
