Cammie Duncan

Obituary Date: Wednesday, April 9, 2014

Mrs. Cammie Duncan, 91, of Buford, GA. Sometimes our greatest blessings are found in those who live among us. We believe that God, in His infinite wisdom and compassion, gives us a glimpse of heaven by sending special angels into our lives. Cammie May Ruth Davis Duncan was such an angel. Cammie, known as Meemaw by family and the dozens of kids she helped raise, went to be with her Lord and Savior on April 9, 2014. She was born April 18, 1922. She was raised on a farm in Hall County by two loving parents, Albert and Carrie Davis, along with seven siblings: A. C. Davis, Irene Kimbro, Nell Burel, Grace Parks, Blanche Duncan, Lois Reed, and Jeanette Davis. Her parents and the six siblings who preceded her in death are rejoicing with her in heaven today. Cammie graduated from Flowery Branch High School and was married to Barney Allen Duncan for forty-five years until his death in 1987. When Barney was wounded and captured during World War II, Cammie lived and worked in Rome, Georgia, with A. C. and his family. For many years, Barney and Cammie owned Big Save Food on Hamilton Mill Road in Buford. Customers became "family" who stopped by for a gallon of milk but stayed to visit. Cammie was a loving mother to eight children: Dennis (Janet), Wendell, Jenny, and Max of Buford, Deryl (Brenda) of Lawrenceville, Janet (Gary) Lewis and Rick of Flowery Branch, and Jo (Jim) Dinnan of Cornelia; sister, Blanche Davis Duncan, Buford; several nieces, nephews and cousins. She loved her children unconditionally and spoiled her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with total abandon. She was happiest when surrounded by a house full of family and friends. Although Cammie never earned a degree from a college, she was a natural teacher. She enjoyed singing hymns, reading, and writing stories. She spent hours making quilts, only to give them away. She loved everyone she met and was loved by everyone in return. Cammie was a long-time member of Sardis United Methodist Church and attended The Springs Community Church and Redwine United Methodist. Her contagious smile and her loving spirit will also be missed by her sister Blanche and her many nieces and nephews. The sorrow we feel at her passing is surpassed by her loving memory and knowing that she has returned home to make heaven a sweeter place. We thank God for sharing her with us. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12, 2014, in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Wallace Wheeles officiating. Interment will follow at Sardis United Methodist Church cemetery, Buford, GA. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 11, 2014, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. The family suggests flowers, a donation to the American Cancer Society in memory of Barney or Cammie Duncan, or a donation of a book to a local school library in their memory.
