Thomas (T.J.) Elrod

Funeral services for Thomas James "T.J." Elrod, age 94, of Clarkesville will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Bethel Temple Congregational Holiness Church with Rev. Jonathan Fitzpatrick, Rev. Wayne Hicks, and Rev. Jeff Appling officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery with military honors provided by VFW Post #7720, and the Georgia Military Honors Funeral Team.
Mr. Elrod died Wednesday, April 9, 2014.
Born in Demorest, on June 22, 1919, Mr. Elrod was the son of the late Edward Harrison and Naomi Moody Elrod. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bertha Allen Elrod, his son, Larry Edward Elrod, brothers, Ernest Elrod, Aubrey Elrod, Loy Elrod, and sisters, Connie Webb, and Cleo Bailey. Mr. Elrod was a member of Bethel Temple Congregational Holiness Church and he was a veteran of the Army Air Corps/Air Force where he served in the South Pacific during World War II. He was also a retired farmer, and had worked for the United States Postal Service.
Survivors include son and daughter in law Jerry & Ann Elrod, of Clarkesville, brother Lowell Elrod of Demorest, sister Mildred Hallford, of Demorest, three grandchildren: Dennis Elrod, Patricia Smith, and Angela Brady; eight great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, April 11, 2014 from 2:00 PM from 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
