James Alexander (Jim) Clarke

REV. JAMES ALEXANDER (JIM) CLARKE, age 76, of Cornelia, passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, surrounded by his family.

Born in Fulton County on August 15, 1937, he was a son of the late James Thomas and Mildred Alexander Clarke. Jim was an Atlanta native, a graduate of Georgia State University and earned a Master of Divinity at the School of Theology at the University of the South. Ordained an Episcopal Priest in 1968, he went to serve St. James', Marietta; St. Catherine's, Marietta; St. Mary's, East Point; and for seven years as assistant to the Bishop for special ministries. He was the catalyst for the formation of St. Mary's as a Hispanic congregation and was well known around the diocese, especially in Northeast Georgia, as a supply Priest and interim Rector.
Survivors include wife, Carolyn Tuck Clarke; daughters and sons-in-law, Janet and Bill Johnson of Alpharetta, GA, Elizabeth and Wes Duke of Roswell, GA; sons and daughter-in-law, James and Jill Clarke of Suwanee, GA and Michael Clarke of Woodstock, GA; step-daughter and husband, Jackie and Lane Arthur of Grimes, Iowa; stepsons and wives, Robbie and Julie Smith of Dallas, TX, Warren and Missy Smith of Charlotte, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Tom and Neda Clarke of Hoschton, GA, grandchildren, Samantha Clarke, Paige Clarke, James Duke, Alex Duke, Brittany Smith, Cole Smith, Walker Smith, Morgan Smith, Jonathan Arthur, Sarah Catherine Arthur, Will Arthur, McKenzie Smith and Tate Smith.

Memorial services will be held 11:00 am Friday, April 11, 2014, at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, Sautee-Nacoochee, GA, with Bishop Robert Wright officiating. A reception will follow the service.
In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the Church of the Resurrection Pre-school, 1755 Duncan Bridge Road, Sautee, GA 30571(706-865-9680) or to the Episcopal Relief Fund, P.O. Box 7058, Merrifield, VA 22116-7058.
