Virgil Gerome Parris

Virgil Gerome Parris, 85, of Cornelia Georgia, formerly of the Alarka community in Bryson City, North Carolina went home to be with the Lord, Sunday March 30, 2014 at his residence. A native of Swain County he was the son of the late Taylor and Dora Barker Parris. He was a US Army veteran having served in the Korean War. He was a member of the Deep Gap Church of God. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Davis Parris; one brother and seven sisters.
He is survived by his wife, Naomi Moss Parris; son, Everett Parris and wife Judy; Daughter, Lillian Parris Birchfield; four grandchildren, Maria Birchfield Henry, Sonya Parris Bennet, Virgil Ray Parris, John Wayne Parris; six great-grandchildren; step-children, Ralph and Dianne Moss, Ralph and Blanch Beasley, five step-grandchildren, six step great-grandchildren, three step great great grandchildren; brother Troy Parris; sister Vinnie Phillips.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00PM Wednesday in the Chapel of Crisp Funeral Home. Revs. Tim Beasley and Benji Collins will officiate. Burial will be in the Mason Branch Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Bryson City VFW post 9281.
Family will receive friends from 5 to 8 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00PM Sunday, April 6, 2014 at The Alto C.H. Church.
