George Koesters

Obituary Date: Monday, March 31, 2014




George Koesters was born on August 27, 1931 in Buffalo, NY. to the late Irene and George A. Koesters. He was called to Heaven on March 31, 2014 at 9:30 a.m. at Northeast Georgia Medical Center., Gainesville, GA.



George met his wife Ginny (Virginia) Davidson in Salina, KS and they were married at the Presbyterian Church there. After getting out of the Air Force as a Staff SGT a Smoky Hill AFB-802nd Air Division, 40th Bomb wing 45th & 44th, -301st Bomb Wing, 40thFMSQ. They made their home in Kenmore NY area after the service.



In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother in law, John Davidson of Roswell NM and sister in law, Alice Davidson of Cuba KS.



He is survived by his wife and 4 sons, Michael of Gainesville, David (Kim) of Kingsport, TN, Mark (Marlec) of Madison, AL, Daniel (Melinda Parris) of Roswell, GA; 9 treasured grandchildren; sister, Judy (Arhtur) Kurtz and 2 nephews of Murielle Inlet, SC; mother in law, Marcella Davidson Regenscheid and brother in law, Jim Davidson both of Cuba KS; 2 nephews.



George attended Syracuse Univ. and played on their 1951 team and the Univ. of Buffalo plus business schools before and after service. George was very active in baseball and basketball teaching his sons in his footsteps, in which they all excelled. He was employed by Union Carbide, Ocean Systems, Samson Cordage, Perry Oceanographic and Nautilus Environmental (Hyperbaric Chambers), Teledyne Tri Bio Laboratories. He was everyone's problem solver. He was a member of the Gainesville Chamber of Commerce. He worked with the Boys Club and mainly little league baseball and basketball in the areas where he lived and especially in Westfield VA. He was president of the high school booster club and belonged to the Kirkwood Presbyterian Church in West Springfield VA. He became a WWII Historian reading over 6000 books which he owns and became a member of his beloved Atlanta WWII Round Table.



He was loved and admired by all and will be missed by any and all that had the pleasure to knowing and working with him. He will dearly be missed by his loving wife to whom he would have been married to for 60 years on June 5, 2014 and all his fantastic family.



Inurnment will take place at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, GA on Friday, April 4, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. A visitation will be held at Little & Davenport Funeral Home on Saturday, April 5, 2014 from 2:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. A Memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel of Little & Davenport Funeral Home. Rev. Danny Newbern will officiate as well as family and friends.
