Hazel Jonell Souther Martin

Obituary Date: Monday, March 24, 2014

Mrs. Hazel Jonell Souther Martin, 90, of Gainesville died Monday March 24, 2014 at her residence.

A lifelong resident of Hall County, Mrs. Martin was the daughter of the late Joseph Francis and Lenier Hatcher Souther. A graduate of Lyman Hall High School and Perry Business School, Mrs. Martin worked as a bookkeeper for Milton Martin Toyota and Milton Martin Honda for a number of years before her retirement. She was a member of Lakewood Baptist Church where she was a member of the Faithful Workers Sunday School Class and the Golden Nuggets.

Mrs. Martin is survived by her daughter, Glenda Martin Brassell, Gainesville; sister, Bernice S. Moore, Kinston, North Carolina; niece, Ann W. Hulsey, Gainesville; nephews and wives, Jimmy and Lynn Martin, Gainesville; Billy and Barbara Martin, Cumming. A number of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive.

Mrs. Martin is preceded in death by her parents and her devoted husband of 68 years, James Glenn Martin; sisters, Idell Wilson, Nina Wilson, Neoma Souther; brother, Joe Souther; brother in law and wife, Jake and Mary Martin.



Mother always had a gentle touch, a calming, soft voice, and a sweet spirit. She and dad had a deeply abiding love for each other and were completely devoted to family.



She was a gifted seamstress and cook. Coconut Cream pies and cherry puddings were some of her specialties.



We pray for blessings upon Ann, Lynn, Jimmy, Judy, Irais, Jasmine, Donna, Vanessa, Jerry, Gayle, Lori and Deby. They all came to our rescue in various ways over the past six months.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday March 27, 2014 at the Lakewood Baptist Church. Dr. Tom Smiley and Dr. Jerry Gill will officiate. Interment will follow in the Alta Vista Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Little & Davenport Funeral Home Wednesday March 26, 2014 from 3-7 p.m.
